Baku, June 2, 2025 – The Europe Today: The national team of Azerbaijan has claimed the title of World Champion for the first time in its history at the Minifootball World Championship, which concluded with great fanfare at the National Gymnastics Arena in Baku.
In a thrilling final match, Azerbaijan triumphed over Hungary with a 4–2 victory, securing the coveted championship title on home soil. The goals for Azerbaijan were netted by Tamkin Kalilzade, Mahammad Khalilov, and Ravan Karimov, who scored twice, sealing the team’s historic win.
Under the leadership of head coach Elshad Guliyev, the Azerbaijani team demonstrated outstanding performance, determination, and teamwork throughout the tournament, culminating in their well-deserved championship.
In the match for third place, Serbia defeated Montenegro with a decisive 3–0 victory, securing the bronze medal.
The successful hosting of the championship in Baku and Azerbaijan’s remarkable performance have been hailed as a significant achievement for the country’s growing presence in international sports.
