Chairman Senate Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani Holds Bilateral Meeting with President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedow

Ashgabat, June 2, 2025 – The Europe Today: His Excellency Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani, Chairman of the Senate of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, held a significant meeting with His Excellency Mr. Serdar Berdimuhamedow, President of Turkmenistan, at the Presidential Office in Ashgabat. The meeting was held as part of Chairman Gilani’s official visit to Turkmenistan, accompanied by a high-level delegation.

During the meeting, both leaders engaged in comprehensive discussions on strengthening bilateral relations between Pakistan and Turkmenistan. Chairman Gilani expressed deep appreciation for the warm hospitality extended by the Turkmen leadership and reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for Turkmenistan’s policy of permanent neutrality, which contributes to peace and stability in the region.

Chairman Gilani highlighted the importance of existing trade and commercial ties between the two countries and presented proposals aimed at enhancing bilateral trade. He stressed the mutual benefits of expanding economic cooperation and underscored the significance of sustained engagement between business communities.

The two sides also held detailed discussions on key regional projects, including the Turkmenistan-TAPI gas pipeline, the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP) power transmission project, and the regional fiber optic connectivity initiative. Chairman Gilani emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to facilitating these projects, viewing them as essential components for advancing regional connectivity and shared prosperity.

Recognizing the strategic importance of Pakistan’s ports, the Chairman Senate invited Turkmenistan to utilize the Gwadar and Karachi seaports to access international markets more efficiently. He reiterated Pakistan’s readiness to support Turkmenistan in enhancing its transit and trade capabilities through these maritime routes.

In a gesture of goodwill and commitment to fostering stronger ties, Chairman Gilani extended a formal invitation to President Serdar Berdimuhamedow to undertake an official visit to Pakistan at his earliest convenience.

The meeting concluded with a shared understanding on deepening bilateral cooperation in various sectors and reaffirming the enduring friendship between Pakistan and Turkmenistan.
