Iranian, Egyptian Foreign Ministers Discuss Expanding Ties and Regional Cooperation

Cairo, June 3, 2025 – The Europe Today: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi stated on Monday that the path to expanding relations between Tehran and Cairo is now more open than ever, affirming that there are no significant obstacles hindering the improvement of bilateral ties.

Speaking during a joint press conference with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty in Cairo, Araqchi emphasized the historical and civilizational significance of both Iran and Egypt, noting that the two nations play pivotal roles in promoting peace, security, development, and progress across the region.

Araqchi underscored the mutual commitment of both countries to enhance political consultations and deepen economic cooperation across various sectors. “Both sides undoubtedly share a common will in this regard, and we are determined to develop our relations,” he said.

He added that efforts to resolve remaining challenges are actively underway, with no major obstacles currently impeding progress. “Any remaining barriers are expected to be resolved soon,” he noted. “This progress could take place in the coming weeks. The opportunity for developing relations between the two countries is more promising than ever.”

The two sides also agreed to maintain regular political consultations, increase trade volume, and initiate broader tourism exchanges to further strengthen ties.

On regional matters, including the situation in Palestine, Araqchi reiterated Iran’s firm stance against the actions of the Zionist regime and reaffirmed support for the rights of the Palestinian people. “During my talks with my Egyptian counterpart, I emphasized the necessity of confronting the crimes of the Zionist regime and reaffirmed our support for the people of Gaza and Palestine,” he stated.

Araqchi also expressed Iran’s appreciation for the mediation efforts of Egypt and Qatar aimed at securing a ceasefire in Gaza. “Iran calls for an immediate and lasting ceasefire in the Gaza Strip,” he said.

Responding to a question regarding the proposed U.S. draft agreement on nuclear issues, Araqchi stated, “We will soon provide an appropriate response to the elements of the plan put forward by the United States. This response will be based on Iran’s principles, positions, and interests, while safeguarding the rights of our nation. Without respect for Iran’s enrichment rights, there will certainly be no agreement.”

Addressing the possibility of the snapback mechanism being invoked by European countries, the Iranian Foreign Minister warned against such a move. “This would be a wrong policy and would only exacerbate existing crises,” he said. “I am confident that through diplomacy, we can reach better solutions and prevent further crises.”
