President Lương Cường Calls for Heightened Preparedness in National Defence and Security

Hanoi, June 3, 2025 – The Europe Today:  State President Lương Cường on Monday emphasized the importance of maintaining a high level of readiness in safeguarding the nation, amid increasingly complex global and regional developments.

Presiding over the sixth meeting of the Council for National Defence and Security for the 2021–2026 term, President Cường urged relevant authorities to remain vigilant and proactive in implementing national defence and security strategies.

Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính, who serves as the council’s Vice Chairman, and National Assembly Chairman Trần Thanh Mẫn, a member of the council, also attended the session.

The council reviewed global, regional, and domestic developments with implications for Việt Nam’s defence, security, and foreign affairs. Discussions focused on evaluating the progress of key national tasks and outlining the agenda for the upcoming seventh session.

In his remarks, President Cường, who also serves as Chairman of the Council, commended the thorough preparations for the meeting and expressed appreciation for the strategic and insightful contributions made by council members. He noted that these recommendations would be submitted to the Politburo and other competent authorities as part of efforts to strengthen Việt Nam’s defence, security, and international engagement.

In light of rapidly evolving geopolitical dynamics, President Cường called on agencies to build upon recent achievements and continue implementing the directives and resolutions of the Politburo, the Party Central Secretariat, the National Assembly, and the Government, alongside guidance from Party General Secretary Tô Lâm on defence, security, and foreign policy.

He highlighted the need for effective execution of the 13th Party Central Committee’s Resolution No. 8, which outlines the strategy for safeguarding the Fatherland in the new context. The strategy emphasizes the protection of national independence, sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, while ensuring national security, maintaining social order, and advancing comprehensive international integration.

President Cường also underscored the importance of restructuring and streamlining the armed forces to meet new demands. He stressed the need to accelerate the implementation of the Politburo’s Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW on promoting breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation, and national digital transformation—critical components for ushering in a new era of sustainable and prosperous development.

Concluding the session, the President reiterated the importance of continuous monitoring, analysis, and strategic forecasting of defence, security, and diplomatic issues. This, he said, is essential to providing timely and effective advice to the Party and State, thereby ensuring national preparedness in all scenarios.
