Jakarta, June 12, 2025 – The Europe Today: The 2025 Indo Defence Expo & Forum, currently underway in Jakarta, is being hailed as a vital platform for strengthening Indonesia’s defense relations with other nations, according to Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, Budi Gunawan.
Speaking at the event on Wednesday, Gunawan emphasized the significance of the forum as a venue for enhancing bilateral and multilateral defense ties. “This event is a strategic venue to enhance bilateral and multilateral relations in the defense sector,” he stated.
Gunawan noted that hundreds of defense industry companies are showcasing their top products at the exhibition. These engagements, he explained, not only facilitate commercial transactions and procurement but also open avenues for joint development initiatives between domestic and international defense industries.
“This kind of collaboration has the potential to foster stronger partnerships between countries and support peace through industrial cooperation, in alignment with Indonesia’s values,” he affirmed.
He further underscored the Indonesian government’s commitment to promoting international peace and regional stability. “As President Prabowo Subianto stated, Indonesia is a peace-loving nation that also values its independence. Therefore, there must be no war that leads to destruction,” Gunawan asserted.
This year’s Indo Defence Expo features a prominent display of Indonesia’s domestically developed defense products, including the Maung electric military vehicle, the Harimau medium tank, the SS3 assault rifle, the Red White frigate, a hospital ship and landing platform dock, as well as modernized F-15 fighter aircraft.
The exhibition, taking place from June 11 to 14 at the Jakarta International Expo (JIExpo) in Kemayoran, has drawn participation from 1,180 companies representing 55 countries. Among the notable participants are Turkiye, the United States, and France.
Indonesia aims to use the forum to raise international recognition of its growing defense capabilities and technological advancements. Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin expressed optimism that several agreements and cooperation contracts between Indonesian and foreign defense manufacturers would be signed during the event.
The Indo Defence Expo & Forum continues to serve as a key event for Indonesia to position itself as a proactive contributor to regional and global peace through defense diplomacy and industry partnerships.
