Central Asia–China Summit Boosts Regional Cooperation and Eases Travel Between Citizens

Astana, June 19, 2025 – The Europe Today: A new initiative aimed at creating favorable conditions for mutual travel between citizens of Central Asian countries and China was adopted during the second “Central Asia–China” summit, held on Tuesday at the Palace of Independence in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, according to Turkmenistan’s official media.

The high-level summit brought together President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping, and the heads of state of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, underscoring the deepening partnership between China and the Central Asian region.

The summit agenda focused on a broad array of topics aimed at enhancing multilateral cooperation, with special emphasis on:

  • Expanding political dialogue;
  • Deepening trade and economic relations;
  • Strengthening transit and connectivity routes;
  • Promoting cooperation in energy, technology, and innovation; and
  • Ensuring regional security and stability.

In a significant development, the parties also announced the signing of an agreement establishing sister-region relations between Ahal Velayat of Turkmenistan and Shaanxi Province of the People’s Republic of China. This cooperation is expected to foster people-to-people ties, economic exchange, and cultural collaboration between the two regions.

A number of bilateral and multilateral documents were signed following the summit, further institutionalizing cooperation in key strategic areas and marking another step forward in the high-quality development of the “Central Asia–China” partnership.

The outcomes of the summit reflect a shared commitment to advancing mutual interests through dialogue, connectivity, and regional integration.
