Baku, June 20, 2025 – The Europe Today: Proceedings continued at the Baku Military Court on Thursday in the high-profile trial of Bako Sahakyan, the former so-called “president” of the illegal regime established in Azerbaijani territories formerly occupied by Armenia.
During the session, Sahakyan responded to questions posed by state prosecutor Tarana Mammadova and revealed the names of key Armenian military officials involved in directing combat operations during the April 2016 hostilities. He identified Colonel-General Seyran Ohanyan, the then Minister of Defense of Armenia; Colonel-General Yuri Khachaturov, then Chief of the General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces; and Lieutenant-General Levon Mnatsakanyan, commander of the largest armed formation of the Armenian forces, referred to as the “army” of the unlawful entity.
The trial forms part of broader legal proceedings against Armenian nationals accused of grave offenses including war crimes, crimes against humanity, genocide, acts of aggression, terrorism, and violations of the laws of war. Additional charges involve financing terrorism, the violent usurpation and retention of power, and other severe criminal acts.
The Baku Military Court continues to hear testimonies and review evidence in what has become a landmark case in Azerbaijan’s pursuit of justice for crimes committed during the years of illegal occupation.
