On the second day of the session, a meeting of the OIC Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir was convened, attended by ministers and high-level representatives from member states, including Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jeyhun Bayramov.

In his address, Minister Bayramov reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s principled position in support of a peaceful resolution to the Jammu and Kashmir conflict, based on the norms and principles of international law, the United Nations Charter, and the relevant UN Security Council resolutions.

He underscored the importance of strict adherence to international humanitarian law, stressing the need to ensure the protection of fundamental human rights and freedoms of the population in the region. He further emphasized the importance of preserving the demographic composition of Jammu and Kashmir in line with international legal standards.

Minister Bayramov praised the consistent engagement of the OIC, particularly through the Contact Group, in keeping the Jammu and Kashmir issue on the international agenda. He expressed appreciation for the collective efforts made by member states to advocate for the legitimate rights of the Kashmiri people.

Highlighting Azerbaijan’s concern over recent tensions in the region, the Foreign Minister emphasized that a just and swift resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir issue is essential for ensuring long-term peace, stability, and security in South Asia.

In this context, Minister Bayramov welcomed the ceasefire agreement announced between India and Pakistan on May 10 of this year, expressing hope that this positive development would serve as a basis for sustained dialogue and the normalization of bilateral relations.
