Azerbaijani and Pakistani Foreign Ministers Discuss Strategic Ties and Regional Developments in Istanbul

Istanbul, June 23, 2025 — The Europe Today: Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jeyhun Bayramov, met with Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, on the sidelines of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers meeting in Istanbul. The discussion centered on the strategic partnership between the two brotherly nations and key items on the bilateral and multilateral cooperation agenda.

Both ministers underscored that high-level reciprocal visits and sustained dialogue constitute a vital pillar of their robust interstate relations. In this regard, they highlighted the significance of the visit of the Prime Minister of Pakistan to Azerbaijan in May and the fruitful discussions held between the two countries’ leaders during meetings in Lachin.

The sides also discussed the forthcoming Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Summit to be hosted by Azerbaijan in July and Baku’s upcoming ECO chairmanship in 2026, considering these developments as important opportunities for deepening regional cooperation within multilateral frameworks.

Minister Bayramov and Deputy Prime Minister Dar emphasized the positive momentum of the political dialogue between Azerbaijan and Pakistan and its role in enhancing collaboration across a range of sectors. They explored the potential for increased cooperation in areas such as economy, trade, investment, energy security, and transport, while also identifying other promising fields for future engagement.

The meeting also addressed regional developments, with both sides expressing serious concern over the security situation resulting from tensions between Israel and Iran. The ministers reaffirmed their support for resolving such conflicts through diplomatic and peaceful means.

In conclusion, the two officials exchanged views on various bilateral and multilateral matters of shared interest, reaffirming their mutual commitment to further strengthening the Azerbaijan–Pakistan partnership on all fronts.
