Iran’s UN Ambassador Condemns Israeli Actions, Urges Accountability for Crimes Against Children

New York, , June 27, 2025 – The Europe Today: The Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, strongly condemned Israel’s actions in both Palestine and Iran, accusing the Israeli regime of systematically targeting children in armed conflicts. His remarks were delivered during the Open Debate of the United Nations Security Council on the theme “Children and Armed Conflict” held in New York on Thursday.

Ambassador Iravani began his address by expressing concern over the ongoing and widespread violations of international humanitarian law, stating that children continue to suffer the gravest consequences of conflicts they neither initiated nor desired. He emphasized the need for universal adherence to international humanitarian norms to ensure the protection and well-being of children caught in conflict zones.

Citing United Nations reports, Iravani claimed that over 50,000 Palestinian children have been killed or injured by Israeli forces since 2023. He highlighted the emergence of the harrowing phrase “Wounded Child, No Surviving Family,” pointing to the scale of devastation inflicted on Palestinian families. The ambassador further accused Israel of depriving hundreds of thousands of children of access to food, water, and medicine, and of using starvation as a method of warfare.

Addressing recent developments, Iravani stated that Israel is now repeating the same pattern in Iran, referencing attacks beginning on June 13, which he alleged deliberately targeted civilians, resulting in the deaths of dozens of children, including infants. He described the actions as part of a broader pattern of systematic and brutal aggression by the Israeli regime in the region.

“The regime will be held fully accountable for its crimes, in particular, its policies and practices of targeting children,” Iravani declared, warning of the serious threat Israel poses to child safety and regional stability.

The ambassador welcomed the recent decision to include Israel on the UN blacklist of parties committing grave violations against children in conflict, but asserted that such steps were insufficient. He urged the Security Council to take effective enforcement action and to hold the “child-killing regime” accountable, despite opposition from certain member states.

Iravani also criticized the United States for what he described as persistent obstruction within the Security Council, particularly in efforts aimed at protecting Palestinian children. Nonetheless, he called on the international community not to yield to double standards and hypocrisy, stressing the importance of exhausting all legal avenues to protect civilians.

In closing, Ambassador Iravani rejected recent accusations made by the Israeli representative against Iran, dismissing them as “baseless and irrelevant fabrications.” He reiterated that the facts on the ground clearly expose the nature of Israel’s actions and intentions.

The session, held as part of the Security Council’s ongoing efforts to address grave violations against children in armed conflict, saw widespread calls for strengthened accountability and protection mechanisms.
