Gianyar, June 27, 2025 – The Europe Today: Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment, Muhaimin Iskandar, announced on Thursday that President Prabowo Subianto has officially approved the development of North Bali International Airport (BIBU), marking a significant step in efforts to strengthen infrastructure and economic growth in northern Bali.
“We have received the president’s endorsements. We have readied the technical aspects, and we will strive to make North Bali International Airport a reality very soon,” Minister Iskandar stated during his visit to Gianyar.
He emphasized that the establishment of a second international airport in the northern part of Bali will not only expand the island’s tourism potential but also significantly stimulate the economic development of surrounding regions. “Bali will grow stronger, both in tourism and in overall economic sectors,” he added.
President Prabowo has expressed strong commitment to accelerating development on the island, including the construction of world-class health facilities, enhanced tourist accessibility, and modern accommodations. “We must not fall behind neighboring countries. The only place in this republic that can compete with their airports is Bali,” the president affirmed, as conveyed by the minister.
According to Minister Iskandar, the Ministry of Transportation is currently finalizing the airport’s location, which will be complemented by a new highway and culturally integrated facilities reflecting Balinese architectural heritage.
The North Bali International Airport project is listed in Indonesia’s National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) for the 2025–2029 period, underscoring its strategic importance.
Erwanto Sad Adiatmoko Hariwibowo, President Director of PT BIBU Panji Sakti, the developer of the proposed airport, confirmed that the project is progressing in accordance with the planned timeline. “We are optimistic and only need to wait a little longer, perhaps a few months. Everything is ready. We are now awaiting the final decision from the Ministry of Transportation and the groundbreaking date,” he said.
The project is anticipated to transform northern Bali into a new hub of economic activity, aligning with national goals of equitable regional development.
