Premier Li Qiang Reaffirms China’s Economic Vitality and Support for AIIB’s Next Decade of Growth

Beijing, June 27, 2025 – The Europe Today: Premier Li Qiang on Thursday reaffirmed China’s strong economic prospects and its unwavering commitment to global openness, declaring that the nation will remain a vibrant force within the global economy and a major source of opportunities for international trade and investment.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 10th Annual Meeting of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) Board of Governors, Premier Li underscored that the expansion and upgrading of China’s vast market will continue to generate significant dividends for the world economy.

“China’s economy will remain a thriving land in the global economy,” he stated, adding that the country will pursue high-standard opening-up and deeper integration into the global economic system. These measures, he said, will unlock fresh development opportunities worldwide.

Reflecting on the AIIB’s journey over the past decade, Li noted that the bank’s membership had grown from 57 to 110 countries, hailing it as a powerful contributor to common development, innovative financial governance, and a model of multilateral cooperation.

Looking ahead, the premier stressed that amid mounting global development challenges, the AIIB should intensify support for its members, delivering high-quality, low-cost financing tailored to diverse needs. “The AIIB ought to facilitate knowledge-sharing and strengthen the internal growth momentum of its members,” Li said.

He further emphasized the importance of the bank in promoting international dialogue and policy coordination, noting its critical role as a modern multilateral platform for addressing complex global governance issues.

“China is ready to work with all parties to support the AIIB as it embarks on a new decade of progress,” Li concluded. “Together, we can contribute more to the sustainable development of member countries and advance the building of a community with a shared future for humanity.”

This year’s annual meeting, held under the theme “Connecting for Development, Collaborating for Prosperity,” was jointly hosted by the Ministry of Finance, the Beijing Municipal Government, and the AIIB. The event drew the participation of approximately 2,500 delegates, including AIIB President Jin Liqun, board governors from member states, heads of major global development institutions, financial sector leaders, and representatives from civil society organizations.
