President of Turkmenistan Receives Senior Executives of Leading Japanese Corporations to Strengthen Economic Cooperation

Ashgabat, June 28, 2025 – The Europe Today: President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov held separate meetings on Friday with senior representatives of leading Japanese corporations, underscoring Turkmenistan’s commitment to enhancing economic cooperation with Japan, according to the country’s state news agency.

Meeting with Hiroyuki Subai of ITOCHU Corporation

In a meeting with Hiroyuki Subai, Member of the Board, Executive Vice President of ITOCHU Corporation, and Chairman of the Japan-Turkmen Economic Cooperation Committee, President Berdimuhamedov praised the active involvement of Japanese companies in Turkmenistan’s gas and chemical sectors.

The president noted that ITOCHU Corporation has contributed to the successful implementation of several major infrastructure and industrial projects in Turkmenistan. He emphasized that the country’s stable and favorable investment climate continues to provide a strong foundation for expanding cooperation into new, mutually beneficial areas.

Reaffirming Turkmenistan’s commitment to deepening ties with Japanese businesses, President Berdimuhamedov expressed confidence in ITOCHU’s continued role as a key partner in the nation’s development strategy.

In response, Mr. Subai thanked the President for the support extended to foreign investors and commended the high level of cooperation between ITOCHU Corporation and Turkmenistan.

Meeting with Kenji Sanada of Kawasaki Heavy Industries

Later the same day, President Berdimuhamedov met with Kenji Sanada, Executive Director of Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd., to review ongoing and prospective collaboration.

During the discussion, both sides highlighted the significant contributions of Japanese firms to the development of Turkmenistan’s economic potential. The president pointed to Kawasaki Heavy Industries’ successful participation in several strategic projects as evidence of the longstanding and fruitful partnership between the two sides.

President Berdimuhamedov emphasized the availability of new opportunities for expanding cooperation, particularly in innovative and high-technology sectors, and reaffirmed Turkmenistan’s openness to strengthening its ties with Kawasaki.

The meetings reflect Turkmenistan’s proactive approach to attracting foreign investment and fostering long-term economic partnerships, particularly with Japan, a key economic and technological ally in the region.
