China Launches New Freight Train Route to Azerbaijan via Trans-Caspian Corridor

Beijing, June 30, 2025 – The Europe Today: A new international freight train route connecting China to Azerbaijan was officially launched today, marking a significant milestone in enhancing trade connectivity between the two countries and the wider region.

The train departed from an international land port in Beijing’s Fangshan district and will travel via the Trans-Caspian International Transport Corridor, also known as the Middle Corridor. This strategic route offers a more efficient alternative to traditional sea shipping, reducing delivery time by approximately 30 days. The train is expected to arrive in Baku within 15 days.

Carrying a diverse range of goods including spare parts, mechanical equipment, and other commercial cargo, the train will pass through Horgos Port into Kazakhstan, from where it will continue across the Caspian Sea to Azerbaijan’s capital, Baku. Portions of the cargo will then be transported onward to Georgia, Türkiye, and Serbia.

The launch of this route underscores the growing importance of the Middle Corridor in facilitating transcontinental trade between East Asia and Europe. It also reflects the strengthening economic and logistical cooperation between China and Azerbaijan, in line with broader regional connectivity initiatives.
