Baku, July 1, 2025 – The Europe Today: The 4th International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD4) officially commenced on July 1 in Seville, Spain, bringing together representatives from 164 countries and 49 international organizations to tackle the pressing financial challenges impeding progress toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Held once every decade, the FfD4 serves as a global platform for mobilizing and aligning financial resources, policies, and international cooperation in support of sustainable development.
Azerbaijan is represented at the high-level event by a delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Samir Sharifov, in accordance with the instructions of President Ilham Aliyev. The Azerbaijani delegation comprises the First Deputy Minister of Finance, the Ambassador to the Kingdom of Spain, the Director of the International Development Assistance Agency of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Secretary of the National Coordination Council for Sustainable Development, and senior officials from the Cabinet of Ministers, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Economy.
The President of COP29 and the Representative of the President of Azerbaijan on Climate Issues are also taking part in the conference, further highlighting Azerbaijan’s commitment to integrating climate action with sustainable development financing.
During the inaugural session, Azerbaijan’s Deputy Prime Minister Samir Sharifov was elected one of the vice-presidents of the conference, reflecting international recognition of Azerbaijan’s growing role in global development initiatives.
This year’s conference, hosted for the first time by a European country, features a wide-ranging agenda, including discussions on debt management, reforms in international tax cooperation to curb tax evasion, and the integration of climate change objectives into development financing frameworks.
The conference is expected to culminate in concrete policy recommendations and renewed global partnerships to enhance the financial architecture supporting the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
