Islamabad, July 1, 2025 – The Europe Today: The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan have agreed to deepen their bilateral relations by enhancing cultural ties and promoting people-to-people connections between the two nations.
The understanding was reached during a productive meeting held on Tuesday between H.E. Dr. Jemal Beker Abdula, Special Envoy and Ambassador Extraordinary of Ethiopia to Pakistan, and H.E. Mr. Muhammad Aurangzeb Khichi, Federal Minister for National Heritage and Culture of Pakistan. The meeting was also attended by H.E. Mr. Asad Rehman Gilani, Federal Secretary for the National Heritage and Culture Division.
Ambassador Dr. Jemal underscored the significance of cultural diplomacy in fostering mutual understanding and solidarity. He highlighted the recent commencement of Ethiopian Airlines operations in Karachi as a landmark development that now connects Pakistan to Ethiopia, Africa, and beyond, facilitating stronger people-to-people exchanges and cooperation.
In the meeting, the Ethiopian Ambassador introduced the “Medemer” philosophy of Prime Minister H.E. Dr. Abiy Ahmed, which emphasizes national unity, intergenerational connectivity, and collaborative nation-building. He noted that Prime Minister Abiy is a prolific author and has written three books elaborating on this vision.
Ambassador Jemal presented Minister Khichi with a copy of Generation Medemer, one of the principal works on the Medemer philosophy. The book was officially unveiled in Pakistan in 2023 and recently added to the collection of the National Library of Pakistan.
Minister Khichi welcomed the initiative and expressed a deep interest in the Medemer philosophy. He announced Pakistan’s intent to translate Generation Medemer into the national language, affirming that all necessary formal steps would be taken to enhance cultural collaboration between the two countries. He commended Ambassador Jemal’s practical and forward-looking proposals for increased engagement in the fields of culture and heritage.
The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to building a stronger, culturally enriched partnership grounded in mutual respect and shared values.
