Rio de Janeiro, July 06, 2025 – The Europe Today: President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, is set to join world leaders on Sunday for a series of high-level plenary sessions at the 2025 BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The summit, held at the iconic Museum of Modern Art, will focus on critical global themes including world peace, global security, and the advancement of artificial intelligence (AI).
The official proceedings will begin at 9:30 a.m. local time with a welcome ceremony for the heads of state and government from BRICS member countries, followed by a group photo session at 10:30 a.m.
Leaders will then convene for the first plenary session to deliberate on issues related to peace, security, and reforms in global governance. The session will be followed by a working luncheon and a closed-door meeting.
In the afternoon, at approximately 2:45 p.m., representatives from BRICS partner countries and key international organizations will arrive to participate in the second plenary session, scheduled to commence at 4 p.m. This session will focus on multilateralism, economic and financial cooperation, and emerging challenges and opportunities associated with artificial intelligence.
The first day of the 17th BRICS Summit will conclude with a formal reception hosted by Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and First Lady Janja Lula da Silva.
On Monday, July 7, the Summit will resume with an additional plenary session beginning at 9:00 a.m., centered on global environmental challenges and public health issues. The Summit is being held under the theme “Strengthening Global South Cooperation for More Inclusive and Sustainable Governance.”
President Prabowo arrived in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday via Galeão Air Force Base, marking his debut participation at a BRICS forum since Indonesia officially joined the grouping on January 6, 2025.
Accompanying the President are Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Arrmanatha Nasir. The Indonesian delegation aims to leverage the summit to promote Indonesia’s strategic objectives and commitment to constructive dialogue amid an increasingly complex global landscape.
According to the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Indonesia regards BRICS as a vital platform to strengthen national interests in the areas of economic development, education, and technological innovation through equitable and inclusive global partnerships.
