President Prabowo Supports Brazil’s Call for UN Reform

Jakarta, July 10, 2025 – The Europe Today: Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has expressed strong support for Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s call to reform the United Nations, emphasizing the need for greater representation of emerging nations in global decision-making processes.

Speaking at a joint press conference held at the Palácio do Planalto — the Brazilian presidential palace in Brasília — on Wednesday, President Prabowo stated:

“Regarding international governance reform, we support your proposal for UN reform to amplify the voices of other major new players globally.”

President Prabowo praised Brazil as a major global power with a robust economy and affirmed that it deserves a more prominent and responsible role in international affairs.

A Call for Inclusive Global Governance

The Indonesian leader underscored the importance of forming a united front among emerging and influential nations to advocate for reforms in global institutions, particularly the United Nations.

“I believe we must unite our efforts and voices to advocate for this reform — together with countries like India, South Africa, Egypt, Nigeria, Germany, Japan, and Mexico,” he said.

Prabowo’s remarks reflect Indonesia’s commitment to promoting inclusive multilateralism and strengthening the role of the Global South in shaping a more equitable international order.

Strengthening Bilateral Ties

President Prabowo described his meeting with President Lula as highly productive, touching on areas of mutual interest and cooperation. He also extended an invitation for President Lula to make a reciprocal visit to Jakarta in October, expressing confidence that the visit would further deepen ties between the two nations.

Accompanying President Prabowo during the bilateral talks were several senior Indonesian officials, including:

  • Zulkifli Hasan, Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs
  • Bahlil Lahadalia, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources
  • Budi Santoso, Minister of Trade
  • Brian Yuliarto, Minister of Higher Education and Science

The visit marks a key moment in the strengthening of Indonesia–Brazil relations, both bilaterally and within the broader context of reforming global governance to reflect the evolving geopolitical landscape.
