President Tokayev Responds to U.S. Tariff Decision, Reaffirms Commitment to Fair and Mutually Beneficial Trade

Astana, July 10, 2025 – The Europe Today: President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has sent an official letter of response to former U.S. President Donald Trump concerning the newly announced 25% tariff on all Kazakhstani products exported to the United States, media outlets reported, citing the Akorda press service.

In the letter, President Tokayev expressed Kazakhstan’s steadfast commitment to maintaining and strengthening fair, predictable, and mutually beneficial trade relations with the United States, a partner with which the country shares a long-standing history of economic cooperation.

“As a reliable trading and investment partner of the United States, Kazakhstan remains open to constructive dialogue aimed at reaching rational and balanced solutions to existing trade issues,” President Tokayev noted in his message.

He further voiced confidence in the possibility of finding a compromise that serves the interests of both countries and avoids the negative consequences of trade restrictions.

The letter follows Trump’s recent statement declaring that, effective August 1, 2025, the United States will impose a 25% tariff on all Kazakhstani products, regardless of sectoral classification. The decision has raised concerns about its potential impact on bilateral trade and investment dynamics.

President Tokayev’s diplomatic response underscores Kazakhstan’s desire to resolve the matter through dialogue and to preserve the positive momentum in U.S.-Kazakhstan economic ties.
