Turkmen President Appoints New Minister of Trade and Foreign Economic Relations

Ashgabat, July 12, 2025 – The Europe Today: President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov has appointed Nazar Halnazarovich Agahanov as the new Minister of Trade and Foreign Economic Relations. The announcement was made during an expanded meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers held on Friday, according to Turkmenistan’s state news agency.

Agahanov, who previously served as Deputy Minister, was relieved of his former post upon assuming the new ministerial role. Following the appointment, he expressed sincere gratitude to the head of state for the trust placed in him and pledged to diligently carry out the responsibilities assigned.

In his remarks during the meeting, President Berdimuhamedov underscored the importance of enhancing the trade sector’s efficiency, raising service standards, and ensuring the domestic market is consistently supplied with essential goods, particularly food products. He called upon sector leaders to fully utilize existing economic and logistical capacities to achieve these objectives.

The government session also reviewed the outcomes of Turkmenistan’s socio-economic development efforts over the first half of the year. Participants examined progress in the implementation of national programs, discussed personnel changes, and heard reports from Deputy Chairmen of the Cabinet of Ministers, heads of key agencies, and provincial governors.

The appointment of Nazar Agahanov is seen as part of broader efforts to strengthen the country’s trade and economic infrastructure and to enhance Turkmenistan’s engagement in foreign economic relations.
