Former DGPR Director Mr. Hamid Javed Awan Passes Away; NAB Chairman, Senior Journalists Attend Funeral

Islamabad, July 15, 2025 – The Europe Today: Mr. Hamid Javed Awan, Additional Director of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and former Director of Information at DGPR, has passed away.

His funeral prayer was attended by prominent personalities including NAB Chairman Lt. Gen. (R) Nazir Ahmad, Deputy Chairman NAB Suhail Nasir, President of the Federal Union of Journalists (Dastoor) Haji Nawaz Raza, Chairman Sweet Home Zamurrad Khan, renowned journalist Nisar Ahmad Chaudhry, along with a large number of social, political, and media representatives.

Speaking to The Europe Today, Haji Nawaz Raza said,

“I woke up this morning to the heartbreaking news of Hamid Javed Awan’s passing on Facebook. It left me deeply saddened. Death is inevitable—no soul can escape it. But who knew the call for Hamid Javed Awan would come so soon? It’s hard to believe he has left us.”

Reflecting on the life and career of the late official, Raza shared that Hamid Javed Awan began his professional journey as a journalist with a daily newspaper before joining the Punjab Directorate General Public Relations (DGPR), eventually retiring as Director Information. Even after retirement, he did not step away from public service and continued working as Additional Director in the Public Relations Department of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

“He was a seasoned copywriter, an expert in public relations, and above all, a warm and gracious personality whose departure has cast a shadow of sorrow across the city,” said Raza. “Though our meetings were infrequent, we remained connected through regular communication on the phone.”

While expressing his personal sorrow, Haji Nawaz Raza also extended condolences on behalf of the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (Dastoor) and the Rawalpindi-Islamabad Union of Journalists (Dastoor). He paid tribute to Hamid Javed Awan’s lifelong commitment to journalism and public service.

Speaking to The Gulf Observer, senior journalist Nisar Ahmad Chaudhry expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Hamid Javed Awan, recalling a bond of over four decades with the deceased. He praised Awan as a brilliant and honest government officer who served with integrity throughout his career.
