Rabat, July 16, 2025 – The Europe Today: Morocco’s House of Representatives on Tuesday overwhelmingly approved a bill to establish the Fondation Maroc 2030, a national body tasked with coordinating preparations for the 2030 FIFA World Cup and other major international sporting events. The bill passed with 112 votes in favor, one against, and no abstentions.
Presented by Faouzi Lekjaa, Minister Delegate in charge of the Budget, the legislation is part of Morocco’s strategic roadmap to implement the Royal Directives aimed at ensuring effective, forward-looking planning for global tournaments.
Minister Lekjaa described FIFA’s official designation of Morocco as a host of the 2030 World Cup as a historic turning point, reflecting the international community’s confidence in the country’s capabilities. However, he emphasized that the mission of the new foundation extends far beyond football.
“The Fondation Maroc 2030 is about much more than organizing matches. It represents a unique opportunity to drive national development, expand infrastructure, strengthen the economy, and create jobs—especially for our youth,” said Lekjaa.
He added that the foundation is designed to serve as a central coordination hub, bringing together government agencies, local authorities, and private stakeholders under a unified structure to deliver on Morocco’s hosting commitments. In addition to the FIFA World Cup, the foundation will play a critical role in organizing events such as the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Unified National Framework
The foundation will be led by a president who also chairs the World Cup 2030 Committee and will be supported by an executive council composed of representatives from key government departments. It will also include a consultative council bringing together voices from the private sector, civil society, and the Moroccan diaspora. This council will provide recommendations to boost national engagement and ensure inclusivity.
In parallel, a dedicated committee led by the Minister of the Interior will oversee territorial coordination to ensure host cities and regions are equipped and supported.
Operationally, the foundation will be managed by a Director General charged with executing decisions made by the executive council and overseeing day-to-day implementation.
Lekjaa highlighted that the foundation is not intended to add bureaucracy but to serve as a dynamic, strategic mechanism reflecting Morocco’s national ambition and inclusive approach. “This is a collective national effort rooted in wide consultation and participation,” he noted.
The launch of Fondation Maroc 2030 signals a major step forward in Morocco’s preparations for the 2030 World Cup and underscores the country’s broader goals of enhancing its global standing, promoting tourism, and advancing socio-economic development through world-class events.
