Malaysian King Briefed on Upcoming State Visit to Russia, Honours Outgoing Royal Official

Kuala Lumpur, July 17, 2025 – The Europe Today: His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, received a detailed briefing on his upcoming state visit to the Russian Federation, scheduled for next month. The briefing, which lasted nearly an hour, was delivered by Foreign Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Seri Amran Mohd Zin during an audience at Istana Negara.

According to an official statement published on Sultan Ibrahim’s Facebook page, the session was attended by several high-level officials, including the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Malaysia, Naiyl M. Latypov; Foreign Ministry Chief of Protocol Datuk Yubazlan Yusof; the Government’s Chief of Ceremonies Datuk Rozainor Ramli; and the Foreign Ministry’s Undersecretary for the Europe Division, Abu Bakar Mamat.

Also present were Comptroller of the Royal Household of Istana Negara, Tan Sri Dr Azmi Rohani, and Grand Chamberlain of Istana Negara, Datuk Azuan Effendy Zairakithnaini.

During the ceremony, His Majesty also took the opportunity to present a letter of appreciation and a commemorative souvenir to the outgoing Comptroller of the Royal Household, Datuk Wira Zailani Hashim, who will retire from public service effective tomorrow.

“His Majesty expressed his deepest appreciation to Datuk Wira Zailani for his dedication and service during his tenure as the Comptroller of the Royal Household of Istana Negara since 2024,” read the official statement.

Tan Sri Dr Azmi Rohani has been appointed as the new Comptroller of the Royal Household, effective July 1. Prior to his appointment, he served as the Johor State Secretary.

The briefing marks a significant step in preparations for the King’s forthcoming diplomatic engagement in Russia, underscoring Malaysia’s commitment to strengthening international ties.
