Azerbaijan and Czech Republic Strengthen Economic Ties Through Business Roundtable in Prague

Prague, July 23, 2025 – The Europe Today: As part of Azerbaijani Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov’s official visit to the Czech Republic, a business roundtable was convened in Prague with the participation of leading Czech entrepreneurs and government representatives.

In his address at the event, Minister Jabbarov underscored that the bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and the Czech Republic are grounded in mutual trust and shared strategic priorities. He highlighted the significance of the Joint Declaration on Strategic Partnership signed in 2015, describing it as a cornerstone in the development of long-term cooperation between the two nations.

Speaking on the economic dynamics, the minister revealed that trade turnover between Azerbaijan and the Czech Republic reached approximately $485 million during the first half of 2025. He expressed optimism about expanding bilateral trade and emphasized the vast potential for investment collaboration across multiple sectors.

Minister Jabbarov noted that the “Agreement on the Promotion and Mutual Protection of Investments,” signed in 2011, continues to serve as a strong legal foundation for joint ventures and cross-border capital flows. Currently, 25 Czech companies are actively operating in Azerbaijan in sectors such as agriculture, industry, transport, construction, trade, and services.

The roundtable also highlighted avenues for deeper cooperation in energy, transport, manufacturing, trade, and other sectors. The Azerbaijani delegation presented detailed insights into the country’s favorable investment environment, including opportunities within the Alat Free Economic Zone, industrial parks, liberated territories, and Azerbaijan’s growing role as a regional transport and transit hub. Czech companies were invited to explore these prospects and engage in mutually beneficial partnerships.

David Müller, Director General of the Section of European Union and Foreign Trade at the Czech Republic’s Ministry of Industry and Trade, reaffirmed the Czech side’s commitment to expanding economic cooperation with Azerbaijan. He stressed the importance of enhancing ties between the two countries’ business communities and welcomed Azerbaijani initiatives to strengthen economic engagement.

The roundtable featured presentations from prominent Czech companies including Chemoprojekt, Czechoslovak Group, Mavel, Omnipol, Škoda, TES VSETÍN, and VSL Group. The event concluded with a Q&A session, fostering dialogue and paving the way for future collaboration.

The meeting served as a significant platform for strengthening bilateral commercial relations and reinforcing Azerbaijan-Czech Republic economic cooperation on a strategic level.
