Colombo, July 24, 2025 – The Europe Today: In a historic diplomatic development, H.E. Alisher Tukhtaev formally assumed his duties as the first Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, with residence in Islamabad. The Ambassador presented his Letter of Credence to H.E. Anura Kumara Dissanayake, President of Sri Lanka, in an official ceremony held today.
This milestone marks the beginning of a new chapter in Uzbekistan–Sri Lanka relations, laying the groundwork for a stable and mutually beneficial partnership between the two nations.
During a warm and sincere exchange, Ambassador Tukhtaev and President Dissanayake discussed prospects for expanding political dialogue, enhancing practical cooperation, and deepening collaboration on regional and international platforms. The Sri Lankan Head of State conveyed strong interest in cultivating closer ties with Uzbekistan.
President Dissanayake also expressed high regard for the visionary leadership of the President of Uzbekistan, H.E. Shavkat Mirziyoyev, whose bold reforms have brought about far-reaching and internationally recognized transformations in Uzbekistan. These sentiments were received with gratitude and appreciation.
The meeting saw the exchange of specific proposals to boost cooperation in key sectors such as politics, economy, education, tourism, logistics, and investment. Particular emphasis was placed on promoting direct engagement between the business communities and experts of both countries.
Ambassador Tukhtaev conveyed his confidence that this new phase of bilateral relations will be built on the principles of mutual respect, trust, and shared strategic interests—paving the way for long-term, comprehensive cooperation between Uzbekistan and Sri Lanka.
