Kazakhstan Reports Robust Growth in Air and Rail Passenger Traffic for First Half of 2025

Astana, July 28, 2025 – The Europe Today: Kazakhstan’s transport sector recorded a significant increase in passenger volumes in the first half of 2025, according to data released by the Ministry of Transport on Monday.

Kazakhstani airlines operated a total of 849 domestic weekly flights across 61 routes, demonstrating the country’s strong internal air connectivity. On the international front, flights were operated to 31 countries via 144 routes, with a total frequency of 842 flights per week, media reports said.

The air sector saw robust passenger movement, with 7.2 million people traveling by air between January and June 2025.

The Ministry also provided an update on railway operations, noting that the national railway network currently includes 154 passenger routes, 12 of which are international. Of these, 112 routes are operated by JSC Passenger Transportation, while 30 are served by private railway carriers.

In total, 9.5 million passengers traveled by rail in the first six months of the year. The Ministry further stated that efforts are underway to expand the passenger rail fleet, with approximately 60 new passenger wagons supplied since the beginning of 2025.

The data underscores the growing demand for public transportation in Kazakhstan and highlights continued investment in expanding and modernizing the nation’s transport infrastructure.
