Prabowo Receives Anwar Ibrahim for 13th Indonesia-Malaysia Annual Consultation

Jakarta, July 29, 2025 – The Europe Today:  Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto welcomed Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim at the Merdeka Palace on Tuesday for the 13th Annual Consultation between Indonesia and Malaysia, marking a renewed commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation across key sectors.

Prime Minister Anwar’s motorcade arrived at the Merdeka Palace Complex at approximately 10:10 a.m. local time, where he was personally received by President Prabowo. The two leaders exchanged greetings, posed briefly for the media, and walked together into the palace.

Before commencing formal talks, President Prabowo introduced Prime Minister Anwar to several senior members of the Red and White Cabinet. Among them were Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Foreign Affairs Minister Sugiono, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian, and Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin. Also present were Head of the Indonesian State Intelligence Agency (BIN) Muhammad Herindra and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.

Prime Minister Anwar, in turn, introduced his delegation, which included Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan, Home Affairs Minister Saifudin Nasution, Investment, Trade, and Industry Minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz, and Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek.

Following introductions, the two leaders proceeded to the Credential Room for an official photo session and the signing of the state guest book, underscoring the warm and longstanding relations between the two neighbouring nations.

President Prabowo and Prime Minister Anwar then held a closed-door meeting at the President’s office, followed by a bilateral plenary session co-chaired by both leaders and their respective delegations. The session is expected to culminate in the signing of several agreements focused on land border management, healthcare cooperation, and advancements in information and communications technology.

Prime Minister Anwar had arrived in Jakarta on Monday evening via Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base and was hosted by President Prabowo for a private dinner at the President’s residence.

This marks the first high-level Annual Consultation between Indonesia and Malaysia since 2017, when President Joko Widodo and then-Prime Minister Najib Razak held talks in Kuching, Sarawak. The revival of this forum reflects both countries’ shared interest in deepening ties and addressing regional challenges through continued dialogue and cooperation.
