President Serdar Berdimuhamedov Reviews Preparations for Upcoming UN Conference in Balkan Velayat

Balkan Velayat, July 31, 2025 – The Europe Today: President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov undertook a working visit to the Balkan velayat to assess the preparedness for hosting the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, the State News Agency of Turkmenistan reported.

During the visit, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov briefed the Head of State on the comprehensive measures completed in preparation for the international forum. The developments include landscaping of the surrounding areas, establishment of a full-fledged service infrastructure, and creation of comfortable conditions for delegates — including recreational facilities and walking areas in the adjacent park.

President Berdimuhamedov underscored the global significance of the upcoming conference, emphasizing that the decision to hold the event in Turkmenistan reflects the country’s growing international standing and its commitment to advancing constructive cooperation with the United Nations. He further reiterated that a strategic partnership with the UN remains a cornerstone of Turkmenistan’s foreign policy, aligned with the broader goals of global peace, progress, and sustainable development.

The high-level forum is set to bring together delegations from landlocked developing countries, UN Member States, and representatives from international and regional organizations, parliaments, financial institutions, and the private sector. The program will encompass a wide array of political, diplomatic, trade, economic, cultural, and humanitarian events.

As part of his visit, the President also inspected the Avaza National Tourist Zone, which is scheduled to host the cultural components of the conference. He issued instructions to ensure that all events are conducted at the highest international standards and concluded his working trip with a return to Ashgabat.

The conference is expected to reaffirm Turkmenistan’s active role in shaping global dialogue on sustainable development for landlocked countries and enhancing multilateral cooperation through the UN framework.
