Turkmenistan and Afghanistan Sign Cooperation Agreement for Turgundy Dry Port Development

Ashgabat, July 31, 2025 – The Europe Today: On July 30, 2025, a significant step in regional infrastructure development was taken today as a contract was officially signed between the “Demiryol Gurluşyk” Closed Joint-Stock Company of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Public Works of Afghanistan.

The agreement outlines cooperation in the construction and commissioning of a warehouse complex at the “dry port” of the Turgundy railway station, a key logistical hub on the Turkmen-Afghan border.

This strategic project aims to enhance trade connectivity and streamline cargo handling operations between the two neighboring countries. The Turgundy dry port plays a crucial role in facilitating international freight transport and is considered vital for expanding regional economic integration.

Officials from both sides welcomed the agreement, emphasizing the shared commitment to infrastructure modernization and stronger bilateral ties. The new warehouse complex is expected to significantly increase storage capacity and improve logistics efficiency, further positioning Turgundy as a regional transit gateway.
