Hanoi, August 1, 2025 – The Europe Today: Vietnamese Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính has called for an urgent and resolute push to achieve a breakthrough in national transport infrastructure, instructing all ministries, sectors, and localities to race against time and surpass development targets by the end of 2025.
Chairing a high-level virtual conference on Thursday to review the work of the State Steering Committee for Key National Transport Projects, PM Chính reiterated the Government’s commitment not only to achieve but to exceed goals such as completing 3,000km of expressways and 2,000km of coastal roads.
“We are now in the final sprint,” PM Chính stressed. “Our objective is not merely to fulfill our targets but to deliver excellence and create strong momentum for the next era of national growth.”
As of August 19, Vietnam has already completed 2,476km of expressways and 1,397km of coastal roads, surpassing its original milestone for coastal road construction.
By end-2025, the government aims to go beyond its National Party Congress commitment and complete the basic construction of Long Thành International Airport.
The virtual meeting, which linked central agencies in Hà Nội with 26 provinces and cities, was attended by Deputy Prime Ministers Trần Hồng Hà and Hồ Đức Phớc, along with senior officials from key ministries and enterprises.
The Prime Minister noted that major projects like Long Thành Airport have regained momentum, while other strategic infrastructure efforts have advanced faster than expected, reducing logistics costs, enhancing connectivity, and strengthening business competitiveness.
He attributed much of this progress to the “500-day emulation campaign” focused on completing the 3,000km expressway goal. The campaign promoted innovation, responsibility, and inter-agency coordination, focusing on:
- High-quality and timely construction
- Administrative simplification for investors
- Rigorous technical and environmental standards
- Technology-driven efficiency
The campaign also fostered community involvement in land clearance and highlighted the contributions of various ministries and key enterprises including EVN, ACV, Trường Sơn, and Sơn Hải.
PM Chính commended several local authorities, particularly in Hanoi, HCM City, Tuyên Quang, An Giang, Quảng Trị, and Cần Thơ, for their problem-solving efforts.
From recent experiences, the Prime Minister identified five key lessons:
- All work must align with Party resolutions and State laws;
- Implementation must be decisive and results-oriented, with clear responsibilities;
- Nationwide political engagement and consensus-building are crucial;
- Bottlenecks must be addressed within each agency’s mandate;
- Efficient use of technology and strong land clearance efforts are essential to timely progress.
With five critical months remaining in 2025, PM Chính urged around-the-clock efforts to ensure the completion of key projects. He demanded:
- A fresh, outcome-based approach with clear roles and timelines;
- Well-organized and regulation-compliant inauguration events for the upcoming 80th National Day celebrations, with the National Exhibition Centre as the main venue;
- The Ministry of Finance to coordinate with ACV and deploy 24/7 construction for Long Thành airport while ensuring safety and quality;
- The Ministry of Construction, in collaboration with localities, to expedite auxiliary infrastructure such as rest areas, surveillance systems, and toll stations.
The Prime Minister’s directive marked a decisive moment in Vietnam’s infrastructure modernization, underscoring bold leadership and unity in the face of mounting development challenges.
