Ethiopia’s “Green Footprint” Gains Global Attention as Over 714 Million Seedlings Planted in a Single Day

New York, August 2, 2025 – The Europe Today: Ethiopia’s monumental environmental initiative, the “Green Footprint,” has captured global attention following a historic achievement in which over 714 million seedlings were planted in just one day. Ambassador Tesfaye Yilma, Ethiopia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, shared the milestone during an interview with EBC, emphasizing the significance of the campaign amid growing global concern over climate change.

Ambassador Yilma noted that the international community has recognized Ethiopia’s efforts as a beacon of hope at a time when the world is grappling with escalating climate challenges. The large-scale reforestation initiative has spurred international dialogue on sustainable development and climate action.

The global reach of the program was echoed by Ambassador Jamal Bakir in Pakistan, who commended Ethiopia’s effective role in addressing climate change. He highlighted how the initiative has inspired climate-conscious efforts around the world and fostered a sense of shared environmental responsibility.

In particular, Pakistan has shown keen interest in integrating the “Green Footprint” as a national policy initiative. Over the past two years, the program has gained visibility through awareness campaigns and activities in several Pakistani cities, where Ethiopian communities and supporters have actively promoted its message.

As nations seek sustainable solutions to environmental crises, Ethiopia’s Green Footprint initiative stands as a powerful model for climate resilience, transnational cooperation, and long-term ecological restoration.
