Kilis, August 3, 2025 – The Europe Today: Azerbaijan is set to solidify its position as a key regional and global energy supplier with the export of natural gas to 14 countries, said Mikayil Jabbarov, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Economy, during the official ceremony marking the launch of Azerbaijani gas supplies to Syria via Türkiye.
Speaking to journalists at the event, Minister Jabbarov emphasized that the project’s successful implementation, given its complexity and tight timeline, was made possible through international collaboration and Azerbaijan’s growing global reputation and credibility in the energy sector.
“This project is a result of large-scale cooperation and strategic planning. The commercial terms, logistical challenges, and gas volumes were significant—but Azerbaijan’s achievements in the energy sector have laid the groundwork for this success,” he noted.
The minister highlighted that the initiative demonstrates Azerbaijan’s capacity to competitively supply energy not only to the West, but also to the South and East, thus reinforcing the country’s role as a versatile and dependable energy partner.
“From a purely commercial point of view, this project proves our ability to sustain energy supply routes in multiple directions. We are confident that activities in this domain will continue to expand in the medium and long term,” Jabbarov stated.
He also expressed deep appreciation for Türkiye’s support, acknowledging the efforts of Turkish counterparts in facilitating the transit and ensuring the seamless implementation of the contract.
Looking ahead, the minister revealed that Azerbaijan plans to expand the footprint of its national oil company, SOCAR, in the broader regional energy landscape. “Our objective is to fully fulfill our commitments, enhance Azerbaijan’s international standing, and ensure the commercial sustainability of our energy exports,” he said.
The natural gas supply to Syria is part of Azerbaijan’s broader strategy to enhance energy connectivity, promote regional development, and contribute to energy security across multiple continents.
