Turkmenistan and UN Hold Flag-Raising Ceremony to Launch Third Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries

Avaza, August 4, 2025 – The Europe Today: A flag-raising ceremony for Turkmenistan and the United Nations was held on August 3 at the National Tourist Zone “Avaza” to mark the commencement of the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs).

The ceremonial event symbolized the importance of the upcoming global forum, which convenes once every decade to address the development challenges and opportunities faced by landlocked developing countries. The conference brings together high-level representatives from governments, international organizations, and development partners to promote sustainable and inclusive development.

The ceremony was attended by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, H.E. Rashid Meredov, and UN Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries, and Small Island Developing States, H.E. Rabab Fatima.

In his remarks, Foreign Minister Meredov underscored Turkmenistan’s commitment to ensuring the successful organization of the conference and highlighted the country’s active role in advocating for equitable development and international cooperation. He emphasized that hosting this major global forum demonstrates Turkmenistan’s dedication to addressing the unique challenges faced by LLDCs through multilateral dialogue and strategic partnerships.

UN High Representative Rabab Fatima commended Turkmenistan for its extensive preparations and reaffirmed the United Nations’ support for advancing the development goals of landlocked nations through joint efforts.

This landmark event also reflects Turkmenistan’s recognition of the United Nations as a vital international platform entrusted with safeguarding global peace and security, while promoting the sustainable development of all nations and peoples.
