Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis Meets Chairperson of Turkmen Parliament to Strengthen Interparliamentary Cooperation

Baku, The Europe Today – August 5, 2025: As part of her official working visit to Turkmenistan, Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of the Milli Majlis (Parliament) of the Republic of Azerbaijan, held a bilateral meeting with Dunyagozel Gulmanova, Chairperson of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of a major international conference, where both sides reaffirmed the strategic nature of Azerbaijani-Turkmen relations and emphasized the growing cooperation between the two countries’ legislative bodies.

Chairperson Gulmanova underscored the importance of the issues under discussion at the conference, noting that they serve the mutual interests of both Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan. She praised the current level of bilateral cooperation and welcomed the progress made in strengthening interparliamentary relations.

Speaker Gafarova, for her part, highlighted the conference’s role in promoting interparliamentary collaboration among participating nations. She recalled the recent visit of the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, to Azerbaijan, where he held key talks with President Ilham Aliyev. The Azerbaijani Speaker stressed that the agreements signed during that visit have created a strong legal foundation for the development of bilateral ties across various sectors.

Gafarova also commended the activities of interparliamentary working groups, which she described as effective platforms for regular dialogue and legislative cooperation.

Both sides noted the deep historical connections and shared cultural and spiritual values between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan, emphasizing the importance of preserving and passing these legacies on to future generations.

The discussions also included an exchange of views on other issues of mutual interest, with both parties expressing readiness to further enhance cooperation at the parliamentary level in support of broader strategic ties between the two nations.
