Azerbaijan and Pakistan Strengthen Naval Cooperation During High-Level Meeting in Baku

Baku, The Europe Today – August 6, 2025: The Commander of the Azerbaijan Navy, 1st Grade Captain Shahin Mammadov, held a formal meeting in Baku with the Chief of the Naval Staff of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Admiral Naveed Ashraf, as part of the latter’s official visit to Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan reported.

The visit commenced with an official welcoming ceremony, during which the naval chiefs reviewed the guard of honor, and the national anthems of both countries were solemnly performed.

In a show of respect, the Pakistani delegation paid tribute to National Leader Heydar Aliyev by laying flowers at his monument located within the grounds of a military unit.

During bilateral discussions, the two sides explored opportunities for the further development of naval cooperation between Azerbaijan and Pakistan. They emphasized the significance of experience exchange between the warship crews of both navies and addressed several other matters of mutual interest related to maritime security and defense collaboration.

As part of the visit, a detailed briefing was organized for the Pakistani delegation at the Azerbaijani Navy base. The guests were informed about the structure, operational capabilities, and current activities of the Azerbaijani Navy in the Caspian Sea. Additionally, they were briefed on personnel conditions, training and education programs, and the organization of service and combat readiness.

The delegation also toured one of the Azerbaijani Navy’s military units, where they observed the infrastructure and witnessed a demonstration by the Azerbaijani marine special forces.

The visit reflects the growing defense ties between Azerbaijan and Pakistan and highlights the two countries’ shared commitment to strengthening naval cooperation based on mutual respect and strategic partnership.
