Awaza, The Europe Today – August 6, 2025: In a landmark development for regional diplomacy, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ali Asadov convened a trilateral meeting on August 5 in Awaza, Turkmenistan.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Asadov conveyed warm greetings from Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to Chairman Berdimuhamedov and President Mirziyoyev. The two leaders expressed their gratitude and requested that their cordial regards be relayed to President Aliyev in return.
Both Chairman Berdimuhamedov and President Mirziyoyev highlighted Azerbaijan’s special role within the Central Asian family of nations and commended President Aliyev’s active contributions to the Consultative Council of Heads of State. They emphasized Azerbaijan’s increasing strategic significance in the Eurasian space and on the global stage, particularly in the context of regional partnerships.
Chairman Berdimuhamedov underlined that the Central Asia–Azerbaijan cooperation format has already materialized in practice and is now in need of institutional consolidation. He reaffirmed President Aliyev’s vision that trilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan is of fundamental importance, calling the Awaza meeting a foundational step toward establishing this format as a regular platform for dialogue and coordination.
The first trilateral meeting between the three leaders featured in-depth discussions on enhancing humanitarian and cultural relations, while placing particular emphasis on strengthening economic cooperation. The parties identified key areas for strategic collaboration, including:
- Transport and logistics connectivity
- Energy infrastructure and trade
- Regional integration initiatives
The leaders expressed mutual interest in deepening strategic partnerships across these sectors, recognizing their shared geographical and economic interests as a solid basis for long-term cooperation.
Chairman Berdimuhamedov also recalled the outcomes of his recent visit to Azerbaijan, noting that he and President Ilham Aliyev had agreed on the construction of a mosque in Azerbaijan’s Fuzuli district and the establishment of sister-city relations between Fuzuli and the newly built city of Arkadag in Turkmenistan. He described these initiatives as symbols of cultural solidarity and friendship between the two nations.
The trilateral meeting in Awaza marks a significant advancement in regional diplomacy, laying the groundwork for enhanced multilateral cooperation among Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, while reaffirming a shared commitment to regional peace, connectivity, and economic progress.
