Washington, The Europe Today – August 6, 2025: U.S. President Donald Trump has named Vice President J.D. Vance as his most likely successor in the upcoming November 2028 presidential election, signaling growing confidence in the Vice President’s leadership and future role within the Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement, according to media reports.
Responding to a question from reporters at the White House on Tuesday regarding the next leader of the MAGA movement, President Trump stated, “I think most likely and in all fairness. He [Vance] is the Vice President.”
While acknowledging that it is still too early to make definitive declarations, Trump praised Vice President Vance’s performance, saying, “Certainly, he is doing a great job, and he would be probably favored at this point.”
In a further indication of potential 2028 election plans, President Trump also mentioned Secretary of State Marco Rubio as a possible running mate for Vance, suggesting a Vance–Rubio ticket could emerge in the coming years. Rubio currently serves as Secretary of State and Acting Assistant to the President for National Security.
“I think Marco is also somebody that maybe would get together with J.D. in some form,” Trump remarked, highlighting Rubio’s prominent role in the administration and his longstanding ties within the Republican Party.
During the press interaction, which took place on the sidelines of a signing ceremony for a new presidential executive order establishing a White House Task Force for preparations for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, President Trump noted the presence of other key administration figures, stating, “I also think we have some incredible people, some of the people on the stage right here.”
While no formal announcements regarding the 2028 presidential race have been made, President Trump’s public endorsement of Vice President Vance and his comments about a possible partnership with Secretary Rubio provide early insight into the emerging political landscape as the Republican Party begins to consider its post-Trump future.
