Islamabad, August 10, 2025 – The Europe Today: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday hailed the landmark peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia, describing it as a historic breakthrough that will open new avenues for trade, connectivity, and regional cooperation.
“This landmark development marks the dawn of a new era of peace, stability, and cooperation in the South Caucasus — a region that has endured decades of conflict and human suffering. We congratulate President Ilham Aliyev and the people of Azerbaijan on this historic agreement, which reflects wisdom, foresight, and sagacity in charting a course for a peaceful future for their region,” the Prime Minister said in a post on X.
He reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering support for the “brotherly nation” of Azerbaijan and shared in their pride at the achievement.
The Prime Minister also acknowledged the role of the United States in facilitating the negotiations, commending U.S. President Donald Trump for hosting and mediating the talks at the White House. He said the agreement not only promises enhanced trade and connectivity but also strengthens the foundation for greater regional integration.
Expressing optimism for the future, Prime Minister Sharif voiced hope that the spirit of dialogue and reconciliation demonstrated in Washington would inspire other regions grappling with prolonged conflicts.
The peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia, brokered by the United States, is expected to significantly improve bilateral economic ties following decades of hostilities.
