Hanoi, August 10, 2025 – The Europe Today: Vietnam’s Industrial Production Index (IIP) posted a robust 8.6 percent year-on-year growth in the first seven months of 2025, maintaining strong momentum, according to the National Statistics Office (NSO).
The solid performance was primarily driven by the manufacturing and processing sector, which surged 10.3 percent and contributed 8.5 percentage points to the overall IIP. Electricity production and distribution rose 4.6 percent, adding 0.4 percentage points, while the water supply, waste, and wastewater management sector grew 10.4 percent, contributing 0.1 percentage points.
In contrast, the mining sector contracted 2.7 percent, reducing the index by 0.4 percentage points.
Several key industries recorded strong year-on-year growth, including motor vehicle production (up 30 percent), rubber and plastic products (17 percent), garments (15 percent), furniture manufacturing (11 percent), and electronic products, computers, and optical products (8 percent).
Among the 34 localities reporting gains, Huế led with a 43 percent rise, followed by Quảng Ninh (32 percent) and Phú Thọ (27 percent), fueled by robust performance in processing, manufacturing, and electricity production and distribution.
However, in some provinces such as Ho Chi Minh City and Cao Bằng, slower growth in these key sectors, along with declines in mining, led to more modest gains.
The NSO also reported that employment in industrial enterprises continued to improve steadily, with the workforce as of July 1 increasing by 1 percent month-on-month and 3.9 percent compared to the same period last year.
