Trump Calls for Immediate Removal of Homeless from Washington, D.C. to ‘Beautify’ Capital

Washington, August 11, 2025 – The Europe Today: U.S. President Donald Trump has called for the immediate relocation of homeless individuals from Washington, D.C., pledging to make the nation’s capital “safer and more beautiful than it ever was before,” according to media reports.

In a post on Truth Social on Sunday, Trump reiterated his earlier announcement of a planned press conference at the White House on Monday, stating, “The Homeless have to move out, IMMEDIATELY. We will give you places to stay, but FAR from the Capital. The Criminals, you don’t have to move out. We’re going to put you in jail where you belong.”

He added that the initiative would be implemented swiftly, comparing it to his administration’s recent border policies. “This will be easier — Be prepared! There will be no ‘MR. NICE GUY.’ We want our Capital BACK,” Trump wrote.

The remarks come despite D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser’s recent statement that crime in the city has not seen a recent spike. Trump did not clarify what legal authority he would invoke to evict people from the capital, as the presidency only grants control over federal lands and buildings in the District of Columbia.

The president’s comments were accompanied by images showing tents and garbage on D.C. streets. According to The Community Partnership, an organization working to reduce homelessness in the city, Washington — with a population of about 700,000 — has approximately 3,782 people experiencing homelessness on any given night. Most reside in emergency shelters or transitional housing, while an estimated 800 remain unsheltered.
