Washington, August 15, 2025 – The Europe Today: U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday estimated that his upcoming meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Anchorage, Alaska, has only a 25 percent chance of achieving success, according to media reports.
In an interview with Fox News Radio, Trump compared the meeting to “a chess game,” while expressing confidence that Putin would arrive with the intention of making progress toward a deal to end the Russia–Ukraine conflict.
The U.S. leader said that if the talks yield positive progress, they could pave the way for a second meeting that would also include Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
On Wednesday, Trump warned that Russia would face “very severe consequences” if Putin refused to agree to a ceasefire in the ongoing war.
The high-stakes meeting between Trump and Putin is scheduled for Friday in Anchorage, Alaska.
