Türkiye Extends Condolences to Pakistan Over Deadly Floods

Türkiye

Ankara, August 16, 2025 – The Europe Today: Türkiye on Saturday expressed deep condolences to Pakistan following devastating floods and landslides that have claimed hundreds of lives across the country.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of lives due to floods in Pakistan,” the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement. “We wish Allah’s mercy upon those who lost their lives and extend our condolences to the people of Pakistan.”

According to Pakistani authorities, the death toll from flash floods and landslides triggered by heavy monsoon rains rose to 321 as of Saturday. The northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has borne the brunt of the disaster, with the Provincial Disaster Management Authority confirming 307 deaths. Elsewhere, five fatalities were reported in Gilgit-Baltistan and nine in Pakistan-administered Kashmir, also known as Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

The calamity has also disrupted communication services in several regions, with mobile phone towers damaged and many areas left cut off.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has warned that another spell of monsoon rains is expected from Friday until September 10, raising concerns of further flooding. Officials cautioned that rising temperatures are accelerating the melting of snow and glaciers in high-altitude areas, contributing to increased river flows.

Monsoon rains, which typically last from June to September, routinely cause destruction in South Asia. However, experts warn that climate change has intensified their severity and unpredictability in recent years, leaving countries like Pakistan increasingly vulnerable to natural disasters.
