Uzbek President Highlights Strategic Partnership with Azerbaijan at Baku Forum

Baku, August 18, 2025 – The Europe Today: President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized the dynamic development of Uzbek-Azerbaijani relations during his address at the High-Level Meeting titled “Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan and Europe – Cooperation for Common Development” in Baku.

“In recent years, Uzbek-Azerbaijani relations have been developing dynamically in a spirit of mutual trust and support. A Treaty on Allied Relations has been signed, and the Supreme Interstate Council is actively functioning,” President Mirziyoyev stated.

The Uzbek leader underscored Azerbaijan’s role as a “strategic bridge” linking Central Asia and Europe, stressing the importance of collaboration with the European Union and other partners to expand efficient transport, logistics, and energy corridors. “I am convinced that these efforts will revive the role of our region as a hub between West and East,” he added.

President Mirziyoyev praised President Ilham Aliyev’s readiness to advance new regional processes and his dedication to strengthening cooperation between the South Caucasus and Central Asia. He also congratulated the people of Azerbaijan on the recent signing of the Trilateral Joint Declaration with Armenia in Washington, facilitated by U.S. mediation, describing it as a historic achievement.

Highlighting Uzbekistan’s ongoing reform path, the President noted that the country, together with Central Asia, offers the international community invaluable resources of “stability, trust, and development” during turbulent global times.

In his speech, President Mirziyoyev also acknowledged the significant role of the Nizami Ganjavi International Center in promoting the intellectual and creative heritage of the great Azerbaijani thinker Nizami Ganjavi. He further recognized the Global Baku Forum, organized under the Center’s auspices, as one of the most respected international dialogue platforms advancing solutions to pressing global and regional challenges.

“We regard today’s forum as a unique opportunity to introduce Central Asia more broadly to the world – a region where consolidation and cooperation are gaining momentum – to exchange views on strengthening interregional connectivity and on fully realizing the potential of Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan,” the President concluded.
