Prague, August 20, 2025 – The Europe Today: The Czech Senate’s Foreign Affairs Committee has called on the government not to recognize Russia’s illegal annexation of occupied territories in Ukraine. Committee chairman Pavel Fischer (SPOLU) announced the decision on Wednesday following a meeting of the panel.
Fischer underlined that the committee had urged the government to reject any recognition of Moscow’s territorial claims. According to Western media reports, Russian President Vladimir Putin has made an end to the war conditional on Ukraine relinquishing the entire Donbas region, including Donetsk and Luhansk.
The committee also appealed to the cabinet to intensify efforts in international organizations — such as the United Nations, the Council of Europe, and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) — to ensure the protection of Ukrainians affected by Russian occupation.
