President of Uzbekistan Receives Pakistani Delegation Led by General Sahir Shamshad Mirza

Tashkent, August 20, 2025 – The Europe Today: President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev on Tuesday received a delegation of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan led by General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee.

General Mirza conveyed to President Mirziyoyev the warm greetings and best wishes of Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Discussions focused on strengthening multifaceted cooperation and advancing the strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and Pakistan, particularly in line with the agreements reached during Prime Minister Sharif’s visit to Tashkent in February this year.

Both sides noted the growing intensity of mutual contacts and exchanges across various levels. Since the beginning of the year, bilateral trade volumes have risen by 23 percent, while freight transportation has increased by 50 percent. Trade houses have been established in Karachi and Lahore, and the number of direct flights between the two countries has also expanded.

The meeting also addressed practical cooperation in military and military-technical spheres, along with joint efforts to counter modern challenges and security threats.

Special emphasis was placed on the timely and effective implementation of the trilateral agreement concerning the construction of the Trans-Afghan Railway, a strategic project aimed at enhancing regional connectivity.
