Jakarta, August 21, 2025 — The Europe Today: The Indonesian government is working to harness the potential of agroforestry products generated from forest and land rehabilitation as part of efforts to strengthen the green economy, Deputy Minister of Forestry Sulaiman Umar Shiddiq said on Thursday.
“Forest and land rehabilitation is not merely planting activities, but part of our broader efforts to advance the green economy, with the goal of producing economically valuable agricultural commodities that can support food, energy, and water security,” Shiddiq stated.
He underscored that ensuring national self-sufficiency in food, energy, and water is mandated under Presidential Instruction No. 14 of 2025. The initiative is also aligned with President Prabowo Subianto’s eight primary missions, known as Asta Cita, which emphasize the government’s commitment to both the creative and blue economies.
The deputy minister highlighted the need to formulate comprehensive strategies to strengthen the impact of forest and land rehabilitation programs. These, he said, should include reinforcing regulations and policies, enhancing inter-stakeholder synergy, and providing bureaucratic support for rehabilitators. He also noted the importance of optimizing financing schemes, utilizing information technology, and expanding networks to improve market access for commodities derived from rehabilitation efforts.
According to Shiddiq, the Ministry’s Directorate General of Watershed Control and Forest Rehabilitation organizes an annual event to promote products from forest and land rehabilitation activities. He expressed hope that such platforms would not only boost market opportunities for these commodities but also raise public awareness on the importance of forest sustainability.
“This initiative can serve as a bridge for synergy between the government, the public, and the private sector in advancing the green economy,” he concluded.
