Prague, August 22, 2025 — The Europe Today: : President Petr Pavel has signed into law an amendment that will tighten asylum and migration regulations in the Czech Republic, set to take effect in January 2026.
The legislation, proposed by the ruling coalition, is designed to accelerate procedures for granting international protection while curbing potential abuse of the system. It also enhances oversight of the movement and residence of asylum seekers and migrants within the country.
According to government officials, the amendment draws on the European Union’s Migration Pact and aligns with measures already adopted or planned by other EU member states in efforts to counter illegal migration.
