PHA Hosts Ethiopia–Pakistan Green Dialogue in Lahore to Tackle Climate Change

Lahore, August 22, 2025 – The Europe Today: The Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) Punjab, in collaboration with the Embassy of Ethiopia in Islamabad, hosted the Ethiopia–Pakistan Green Dialogue: Lessons from Ethiopia’s Green Legacy at a local hotel in Lahore, aimed at promoting green culture, innovation, and technology to effectively combat climate change.

The event was graced by Punjab Housing and Urban Development Minister Bilal Yasin as Chief Guest, alongside Secretary Forest, Wildlife & Fisheries Department Muddassir Riaz Malik, DG PHA Naheed Gul Baloch, and FPCCI Vice President Zaki Ijaz. A high-level Ethiopian delegation also joined, with participation from government officials, diplomats, climate experts, academia, youth, and civil society representatives from Pakistan.

H.E. Dr. Jemal Beker Abdula, Ethiopian Ambassador to Pakistan, presided over the dialogue with DG PHA H.E. Mansoor Ahmad. Highlighting Ethiopia’s Green Legacy Initiative under Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed, the Ambassador shared how Ethiopia successfully planted over 41.2 billion seedlings to enhance green cover, combat soil erosion, reduce poverty, and address food insecurity. He emphasized that Pakistan, despite contributing least to global carbon emissions, is among the most climate-vulnerable countries, assuring Ethiopia’s solidarity and cooperation.

The DG PHA lauded Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s climate-friendly agenda, stressing Punjab’s commitment to sustainable modernization. FPCCI Vice President Zaki Ijaz also appreciated the joint efforts of Ethiopia and Punjab in addressing climate challenges.

The program featured the presentation of Green Legacy Awards and a mass tree plantation ceremony, symbolizing the shared resolve of Ethiopia and Pakistan for a greener future. A panel discussion followed, where experts and policymakers exchanged innovative strategies and frameworks for long-term environmental sustainability.
