Trump Targets Chicago as Next City in Federal Crime Crackdown

Washington, August 23, 2025 – The Europe Today: U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Friday that the federal government will shift its crime-fighting focus to Chicago, following recent deployments of federal law enforcement and National Guard troops in Washington, D.C.

“After we do this, we’ll go to another location, and we’ll make it safe also,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office. “We’re going to make our cities very, very safe. Chicago’s a mess. You have an incompetent mayor—grossly incompetent—and we’ll straighten that one out probably next. That will be our next one after this. And it won’t even be tough.”

Trump said that “African American ladies, beautiful ladies” had personally urged him to intervene in Chicago, a city that has long faced challenges with gun violence. He indicated that after Chicago, his administration could turn its attention to other cities, including New York.

Official data, however, shows that both fatal and nonfatal shootings in Chicago have declined compared to recent years, reflecting a nationwide decrease in violent crime.

The administration’s move follows a surge of federal law enforcement in Washington earlier this month. Despite statistics showing violent crime has dropped in the capital, the White House described the situation as “unacceptable.” Last week, Trump took federal control of the Metropolitan Police Department and ordered the deployment of hundreds of National Guard troops to strengthen the crackdown.
