Tehran, August 24, 2025 – The Europe Today: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has called on the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to use its forthcoming summit as a crucial platform to strengthen unity against what he described as the “insatiable expansionist ambitions” of the Israeli regime.
In an article published on Sunday in the London-based newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat, Araghchi described the meeting as a “genuine historical test for the Islamic Ummah,” emphasizing that it could serve as a rare opportunity to forge a regional and global front against Israeli aggression. The article, titled “The Illusion of ‘Greater Israel’ Is an Existential Threat and a Danger to International Peace and Security,” coincided with the Extraordinary Meeting of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers, convened to address ongoing Israeli attacks on Palestine.
Araghchi stressed that the summit must go beyond symbolic gestures of solidarity and instead reflect a shared resolve among Islamic nations to counter Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s “insatiable ambitions” and put an end to attacks on civilians, annexation efforts, and assaults on Islamic countries.
“This war on the Gaza Strip is not merely a fleeting military conflict or an ordinary humanitarian crisis: it is a systematic, full-fledged genocide explicitly intended to achieve ethnic cleansing amid the complicit silence of the United States and the West more broadly,” the minister wrote.
He highlighted extensive destruction in Gaza, including atrocities against women and children, ongoing settlement expansion in the West Bank, and Israeli military operations in Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, and Iran. Araghchi also cited statements by Israeli leaders and maps projecting a “Greater Middle East,” warning that such expansionist ambitions pose a growing threat to regional stability.
Concluding his article, Araghchi urged Islamic nations to take decisive and urgent action. “As representatives of Islamic nations, we have a religious and humanitarian responsibility to endorse decisive and serious steps in support of our brothers and sisters in Gaza and the West Bank, halt the ongoing genocide, hold criminals accountable, and build a bulwark against the expansionist ambitions of this lawless entity threatening the Islamic world,” he said.
